Artist Najia Mehadji is exhibiting her work at L'Atelier 21, from March 17 to April 22, 2015. Entitled 20 ans d'œuvres, this retrospective showcases several of the artist's periods, including older series such as Chaosmos, Pivoines, Grenades and Arborescences, as well as more recent canvases such as Enroulement, Mystic Dance and Drapés.
In her interview with art historian and critic Philippe Piguet, Najia Mehadji explains how she came up with the idea for this retrospective: “...The idea behind this choice is to show the link between all the periods, to show the common thread running through the work over some twenty years... It's the desire for synthesis that I've always had, to make the link between East and West, between Western and non-European cultures. More than a simple desire, it's the expression of a necessity. That of synthesizing elements that are usually separate, such as painting and architecture, drawing and dance, line and sound, etc.”
