Zakaria Ramhani: Double

10 April - 18 May 2018

Painter Zakaria Ramhani exhibits his recent works from April 10 to May 25, 2018 at the art gallery L'Atelier 21, Casablanca. Born in Tangier in 1983, Zakaria Ramhani has been working since 2006 on a project entitled “De droite à gauche”, in which he composes a series of painted portraits using a dense network of Arabic and Latin calligraphic letters.

For his third solo show at L'Atelier 21 art gallery, Zakaria Ramhani returns with a new series that has taken several years to complete. In his new works, he blurs the lines, or rather splits them, in a gallery of portraits of creators, often captured at a young age.

These artists and writers have played an important role in Ramhani's life. The painters include Frida Kahlo, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso; the writers include Victor Hugo, Arthur Rimbaud, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Agatha Christie and Ernest Hemingway. They are universal figures of human creativity, represented here in their childhood or adolescence just before the crystallization of their genius.
