Artist Najia Mehadji exhibits her recent works at L'Atelier 21 art gallery in Casablanca, from September 25 to October 27, 2018. Entitled L'invention du geste, this exhibition showcases the artist's latest works, participating in the Touche, Gnawa Soul, Vague and Chute series.
For her second solo show at art gallery L'Atelier 21, Najia Mehadji evokes in an anthology of works the various gestures that punctuate her work as a painter. “Gesture is the source of Najia Mehadji's art,” emphasizes Nathalie Gallissot, director of the Musée d'art moderne de Céret, in the preface to the artist's exhibition catalog. In the Wave series, the ebb and flow of Sufi thought is symbolized, expressing a return to origins in order to reach the universal. The wave is part of a line that continues this perpetual movement. “Najia Mehadji's wave is a wave that originates in her mind and spreads across the canvas through the painter's body, becoming one with the brush,” explains Nathalie Gallissot.
