Following in the footsteps of previous exhibitions, L'œuvre en mouvement affirms the artist's long and fertile creative career, with a fundamental corpus of figures, symbols and atmospheres, as well as a formal and stylistic research that combines profound unity with constantly renewed diversity, as Mohamed Jibril writes.
A monograph entitled L'œuvre en mouvement, dedicated to the work of Mohamed Abouelouakar, is being published by the art gallery L'Atelier 21 to coincide with this exhibition. The book is structured around one of the painter's major works, La Grande Odalisque. It contains all the elements that set him apart from other Moroccan painters. He is one of those who are not related to the pioneering generation, but who will undoubtedly have a considerable influence on future generations, even if Mohamed Abouelouakar's irreducibility and wild character are not, strictly speaking, conducive to making disciples. This originality, this singular language, unique in the history of the plastic arts in Morocco, can be grasped by talking about La Grande Odalisque.
