Mohamed El baz was born in 1967 in Ksiba, Morocco.

After obtaining a national diploma in plastic arts from the École Régionale d'Art de Dunkerque in 1989, he went on to earn a diploma in plastic expression from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy in 1992. He also studied at the Institut des Hautes Études en Arts Plastiques in Paris.

Mohamed El baz invites viewers to immerse themselves in his artistic universe by arranging a visual assemblage of striking plasticity, in which everyday elements such as soaps stand side by side with stars. This unusual conjunction of the trivial and the transcendent gives rise to the poetic explosion for which the artist is renowned.

For years, Mohamed El baz's mission in art has been to “tinker with the incurable”, a phrase inspired by the philosopher Cioran. Through installations, photomontages, performances and sculptures, he constantly poses the equation of a world marked by deflagration. Mohamed El baz composes a universe that is both intimate and remote, seemingly betting on the subversive capacity of his works to impose their presence on the viewer.

Mohamed El baz's work has been exhibited extensively in Morocco and abroad, and has been included in prestigious collections including the Ministry of Finance (Morocco), the Al Maaden Museum of Contemporary African Art (Morocco), the Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain de la Corse (France), the Musée d'Art Moderne de Lille (France), and the Musée Léon Dierx (La Réunion).

Mohamed El baz died in 2024 in Marrakech.
