Derrick Ofosu Boateng was born in Accra, Ghana, in 1998.
Ghanaian artist-photographer, Derrick Ofosu Boateng is famous for his innovative artistic approach, “Hueism”, based on color therapy and visual poetry.
Taken with an IPhone and digitally retouched, Derrick Ofosu Boateng's photographs create some of the most energetic work of this generation, and take a proud and meticulously composed look at Ghana and the continent. Attentive to the horizon lines that make up his images, he uses color to delineate different spaces: from dry land to the sea, passing through the vast expanses of skies that are sometimes blue, but more often red or green, in a deliberate effort to place his stagings under the sign of frank gaiety and eye-catching glitz.
Poetry and African proverbs also play a crucial role in Derrick Ofosu Boateng's creative process, shaping his visual universe. Each color, each accessory is part of a personal staging illustrating an ancestral motto or proverb, emblematic of the Ashanti tribe to which he belongs.
His work has been exhibited in London, Basel, Paris, Miami, Amsterdam and Brussels, and is part of prestigious collections including the Musée des Bons-Enfants (Netherlands), the Musée de la Boverie (Belgium), the Yinka Shonibare Foundation (UK), the KOKO Art Collection (UK), and the Nubuke Foundation (Ghana).
Derrick Ofosu Boateng lives and works in Accra.
